There is a mountain somewhere deep in the bush of northern Mozambique in the remote province of Niassa called Mt. Yao. It is the storied origin of the people who have received their name from this mountain. From this place, the two million Yao peoples have spread into the three countries which surround Lake Malawi—Mozambique, Tanzania & Malawi. Still seen as the birth place of the Yao, the mountain highlands of western Niassa are the center of the Yao in Mozambique. This region, being an isolated, remote area of Mozambique, continues to be one of the forgotten areas of the country.
Through a strange, long journey of four years, we have found our home among the Yao. Involving a six month journey all over northern Mozambique looking for our place in our Creator’s movement towards global reconciliation, we have discovered a desire to join the story of the Yao. As our Author continues to write the story of the Yao, we hope to be redeeming characters witnessing to the Wind of change guiding the feet of humanity to peace.
